This Website, once it's up and running fully, will post interesting jobs for people who are doing the work of outsourcing management in IT. To kick things off, here are some worthwhile job leads that I found today on popular job sites:

United Airlines in Elk Grove, IL seeks a Strategic Sourcing Manager for its "IT procurement for Hardware, Software and IT Services." Specifically, it wants somebody to manage its global distribution systems and software and services related to its airline reservation systems. Experience requirements: "5-10 years of business experience related to the job with significant accountability and delivery of total cost of ownership reductions. Strongly prefer this experience in a purchasing role. Must have proven experience in complex negotiations and be willing to provide examples in the interview process. Experience with forecasting, budgeting, and resource allocation methods is preferred." Also of interest: Aside from a Bachelor's degree, United wants somebody who has a Master's degree, as well as certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and/or certification from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Here's where IT experience comes in handy. The right candidate has experience in: telecommunications and networking components;, security (intrusion detection, firewall set-up); mainframe, server and application architecture (ERP-focused); application development and maintenance; and business continuity planning and disaster recovery. And even though JP Morgan has stated it'll be bringing much of its IT services back in house now that BankOne's insourcing leaders are in charge, there's still room for sourcing expertise in the company. It's seeking to hire several IT sourcing project managers. One position is part of the "strategic sourcing group," which reports to the "CIO community." Let me list what this person needs to know how to do (because it's a marvel of descriptive business babble…):

  • Lead firm's sourcing strategy in identified categories and client space.
  • Take lead in establishing global sourcing strategy for IT sourcing projects initiated inside Chase Card Services LOB.
  • Represent SSG Procurement Strategies in corporate-wide initiatives.
  • Ensure success of company-wide procurement activities in pursuit of sustainable TCO reductions and improvements in quality, competitiveness, and service levels.
  • Manage and lead major sourcing projects. These projects include high risk, large cost, complex efforts.
