In a February 23, 2005, article in USA Today, AP writer Colleen Slevin reports that Colorado state senator Deanna Hanna, D-Lakewood, has introduced legislation to require that state to stop doing business with companies that outsource work overseas instead of hiring U.S. workers. The ban would apply only to services, not products.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 36 states considered legislation in 2004 aimed at limiting offshoring, but legislation was only enacted in Tennessee and Illinois. This year, at least 15 states besides Colorado are reportedly considering such bills.
