According to this article in InformationWeek, based on a survey done by the Society for Information Management, the skills possessed by IT professionals that are of most value and most likely to lead job retention are those that cover project management and business domains.
The specific question asked was, “What IT skills are critical to keep in-house through 2008?”
The report doesn’t really say what lost, but the top five areas that won are these:
- Project planning, budging, scheduling, 77%
- Functional area process knowledge, 75%
- Company-specific knowledge, 71%
- Systems analysis, 70%
- Industry knowledge, 70%
