Multinational companies that had started India development centers over the last decade are increasingly facing pressure to integrate the India centers with their organization tightly and not treat them as low cost centers.
The centers which are run as low cost centers have seen the rate of employee attrition increase due to lack of ownership and lack of career progression. To address this, some of the companies have started providing the India management team with global responsibilities. It ranges from owning the responsibility for a product line or responsibility for a larger region such as Asia Pacific, Middle east, etc.
However, the organizations have to invest heavily in developing the leadership teams at the India center and in hiring senior talent to be able to provide them with global responsibilities.
