A research study by Deloitte and CallingtheCape a body playing an important role in promoting Cape Town as a call center hub says that industry has grown by 30% a year for the past 3 years. The body believes that the industry offers South Africa a great opportunity for job creation for young, previously disadvantaged people, provided it is backed by efforts to encourage more investments and grow the talent pool. 2.4% of the Western Cape’s income is contributed by 200 active players in the business.

Happy to know that offshoring is contributing to development of the people most needing it.

The report also says that the region is being seen as a viable alternative to India and Philippines as a location for quality and offshore contact center work particularly in customer intensive processes such as customer service, sales and tech support.

I feel that this can certainly be accomplished and the region can emerge as a strong mid shore sourcing hub for North American and near shore sourcing hub for European companies; provided the cost structures – setting up and running operations are also taken care of.
