Enterprise Systems, which provides some good on-going coverage of trends in IT, says not to blame outsourcing for any depression IT professionals are currently experiencing in pay levels. According to, “Salary Blues? Don’t Blame Outsourcing,” author Stephen Swoyer quotes from a recent study by Foote Partners that suggests companies that have experimented with offshore projects are now coming back onshore and reinvesting in local staff and systems.

    Writes Mr. Swoyer:

In particular, says Foote, pay for IT pros with application development, database, enterprise software, networking, and systems administration skills has increased in 2005, growing by 3.8 percent for non-certified IT workers and 1.3 percent for certified pros in the first six months of the year.

Especially attractive: People who have done IT work in a particular vertical industry and those who have experience-backed certifications such as HP/Compaq Master Accredited Systems Engineer; HP/Compaq Accredited Systems Engineer; Certified Information Systems Auditor; Cisco Certified Security Professional; and Sun Certified Systems Administrator for Solaris.
